The main game's figures assume you play correctly; the more you stray, the higher the edge climbs. Fortunately the whole strategy fits in one line.
The magic words: queen-six-four
Basic strategy in three card poker is simply: play queen-six-four or better, fold anything worse.
With a pair or better, always play.
With no pair, compare your cards with Q-6-4 from the top down.

Following this rule, you play about 67% of the hands you are dealt.
Why queen-six-four?
The dealer qualifies with queen high. A queen-high hand wins the ante whenever the dealer fails to qualify, and even when the dealer qualifies it has a chance against a weak queen high.
Work it through and playing Q-6-4 loses less on average than folding and giving up the ante. One step lower, Q-6-3 loses about 1.003 antes on average when played, a hair worse than the 1 ante a fold costs. That is where the line falls.
Common mistakes
Copying the dealer and playing any queen high: playing Q-5-x or Q-6-3 costs a little every time.
Playing every hand: weak hands lose two units, ante and play, far more often, and the house edge rises sharply.
Playing below queen high on a hunch: jack high or worse has almost no chance whenever the dealer qualifies.
Thinking about Pair Plus
Pair Plus needs no decisions; it is pure luck. With this site's pay table (4 to 1 on a flush) its house edge is 2.32%, actually lower than the main game's 3.37% of the ante. Where a flush pays only 3 to 1, though, the edge is over 7%, so check the pay table before you bet.
Pair Plus wins about 25.6% of the time. It misses three times in four, so its swings are bigger than the main game's.
Managing your bankroll
A hand puts two antes at risk, the ante and the play, plus any Pair Plus.
A bankroll of 30 to 50 antes is a good guide: $20–30 antes on $1,000.
Hands are quick, so you play many of them in an hour. Take breaks as you go.
How to practise here
When the three cards land, decide at a glance: "Do I have a hand?" then "Is it above Q-6-4?"
With Q-6-x, make a habit of checking the third card.
Try betting only the ante, only Pair Plus, then both, and compare how your balance moves.
