Sic bo is a game of guessing how three dice will land. The dealer shakes them in a covered container, then lifts the lid to show the result. You put chips on the areas of the layout you think the result will match.
Every bet is settled by a single shake, so the rules could hardly be simpler. What makes the game is the range of payouts, from even money on big or small up to 150 to 1 for three of a chosen number.
How a round plays out
Bets: put chips on the areas of the layout. You may bet on as many areas as you like.
The shake: when betting closes, the dealer shakes the dice in the container (or an automatic shaker).
The result: the lid comes off and the three dice are announced. The winning areas light up on the layout.
Settling: losing chips are collected and the winning areas are paid.

Big and small, odd and even
The basic bets are "big" and "small". Big wins when the three dice total 11 to 17, small when they total 4 to 10, and both pay even money. But when all three dice show the same number (a triple), both lose whatever the total.
Odd and even work the same way on whether the total is odd or even, and they lose on a triple too. That "lose on a triple" is where the house gets its edge.

Bet on the exact total of the three dice. The rarer the total, the more it pays. A total of 3 or 18 can only come from a triple, so the layout has fourteen totals, from 4 to 17.

Wins if all three dice show the chosen number. Pays 150 to 1; the chance is one in 216.

Wins if all three dice match, whatever the number. Pays 24 to 1; the chance is one in 36.
Two-dice combinations
Pick two different numbers; the bet wins if both appear. There are fifteen of these areas, from 1 and 2 to 5 and 6, each paying 5 to 1. The third die can be anything.
